Update from the donations department: Build it Green! NYC has recently acquired an entire library's worth of vintage filing cabinets, card catalogs, and a boatload of well-made plywood shelving. The building, Fogelman Library at 65 5th ave, is slated for demolition by the end of fall. All items were generously donated by the New School University.

Architectural Salvage

Build It Green!NYC is partnering with MADE - an innovative design/build architecture studio - to salvage resuable materials from a West Village townhouse. MADE brought in BIG!NYC because they strongly believe in combining intelligent and creative design with sustainable practice. Check MADE out at http://www.made-nyc.com.

Indeed it was. The sun was shining, many materials were exchanged, the turnout was great, the People festive and the free hot/not dogs were flying off the grill! Build It Green is pleased to be the chief salvaged wood supplier for New York's hottest up and coming furniture design duo. Myriah Scruggs and Nadia Yaron of Nightwood (www.nightwoodny.com) use almost exclusively Build It Green materials to create their unique rustic modern furniture and accessories. And man, it looks good. Be sure to catch them at the Brooklyn Flea this Spring!

Build It Green!NYC has always supported the arts. We have been providing materials to Socrates Sculpture Park for the last 3 years. In recent months, we have supported an additional plethora of great projects around the city.

It's been a busy 6 months for deconstruction manager Max Rubinstein and the rest of us here at Build It Green! headquarters in Astoria. In that time, we've removed & reused over 50 kitchen cabinet sets that would have otherwise ended up in the landfill. We've been expanding the program of late as well...

Thats right, thanks to a newly acquired "COM PAK" Compact Florescent (CFL) Drop-off box from the Green Action Project you can bring your depleted bulbs right down to the warehouse and we will recycle them FREE OF CHARGE. Clear your eco-conscience while you shop!

In the world of recycling, city council passed a plastic bag recycling bill. The bill will require stores over 5000 sqft to offer plastic bag recycling containers and track the resulting recycling. The bill is a good first step increasing recycling for plastic bags.

All 5 boroughs of NYC now have special waste drop off sites that accept a lot of things that are hard to dispose of normally. Any paint that we do not or cannot accept can be disposed of at these locations.
