The Tree Guard Clinic rocked out all morning long this last Saturday. All I can say is: Wow and thanks for the memories!

Marc "The Guard" Dreyfus (http://brooklynshade.org) led a great clinic with the help of the reasonable and gracious folks from Green Shores NYC (http://www.greenshoresnyc.org) for about twenty people.

There are some conditions for sponsorship, so be sure to read through them. While Build It Green!NYC's budget is limited, we do like to help out when we can.

A lot of people don't know that Build it Green!NYC is part of a network of New York environmental non-profits under the umbrella of the Community Environmental Center, an organization that provides weatherization and energy savings to under-served local communities.

Recycle-A-Bicycle is having their 15th Birthday celebration on December 14th, 2009! Come out and show a great community reuse group some support at Superfine in Dumbo. BIGNYC is providing a gift certificate for their benefit auction.

Over the weekend our friends at Buffalo ReUse gathered hundreds of volunteers to help deconstruct a home as part of ABC’s show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”. The house came down in 15-17 hours, depending on if you count the TV cheesing.

Though the U.S. represents less than 5% of the world’s population, we generate 22% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions, use 30% of the world’s resources, and create 30% of the world’s waste. Our waste production and overconsumption of materials is a key factor in our impact on climate change.

There's a new bar/restaurant called "The Manhattan Inn" in Greenpoint, built almost entirely from stuff from Build It Green!

Lately, the Build it Green warehouse has seen a huge influx of great new interns and volunteer helpers.

From the Brooklyn College Sustainability and Social Entrepreneurship program we currently have Elizaveta Golovatskaya as a marketing intern.

The New York City Century Bike Tour is coming up this Sunday, September 13th and your very own BIG!NYC will be hosting the composting and recycling for the event. There will be 6000 riders expected this year, that means quite a bit of recyclable and compostable material. It also means that we will need a LOT of help to take care of it.

Over here at BigNYC we have decided to take the logical next step...hands on educational programming. In the coming months, we will be offering numerous weekly workshops here at the warehouse, including PAINT MIXING, VERMACULTURE MADE EASY, CAT SCRATCHING POST, BOOKCASE, AND LOFT BUILDING...

Build It Green!NYC partnered with MADE - an innovative design/build architecture studio - to salvage resuable materials from a West Village townhouse. MADE brought in BIG!NYC because they strongly believe in combining intelligent and creative design with sustainable practice. Check MADE out at http://www.made-nyc.com.

Block Party at Build it Green

Indeed it was. The sun was shining, many materials were exchanged, the turnout was great, the People festive and the free hot/not dogs were flying off the grill! A special thanks to Solar1 for the sound system, the groups that participated, and of course everyone that made the trek! Stay tuned for our next gathering...
