A Second Life for Scaffolding

Build It Green!NYC Donates Used Lumber to Urban Teaching Farm in Brownsville -

This week marks a second life for 10 tons of scaffolding lumber thanks to BIG!Blooms,
Build It Green!NYC’s scaffolding donation program. A truck departing from Ace Scaffolding in northern
New Jersey will deliver approximately 500 untreated 2x9 boards to an 8,000 square foot lot in
Brownsville, Brooklyn.

This empty lot in Brooklyn will soon be the home of the Brownsville Student Farm Project, an urban
teaching farm made possible by the donated lumber. Nora Painten, founder of the Brownsville Student
Farm Project, believes this collaboration will “beautify the land, educate local youth, and provide a source
of fresh produce for the community.”
